Calspan Corp. has signed a $4.6 million contract to build two full-scale crash-test facilities in India.

The deal for Cheektowaga-based Calspan is through India’s National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project (NATRiP)

“This contract is great news for Calspan as it broadens our global footprint and advances our ongoing efforts to build world-class test facilities for a worldwide customer base,” said Dr. K.S. Govindaraj, vice president of technical operations.

Officials said pre-assembly work, which will take up to 18 months, will be done at Calspan’s local site with some of the work sub-contracted other Western New York businesses.

In addition to its Cheektowaga complex, the company operates a flight research center in Niagara Falls.
